The Death of Film?

I agree with Scott Tobias' fears about the death of celluloid and attachment to it as a material.

Pauline Kael Revisited

Pauline Kael is one of my heroes. She was the one who helped me fall in love with film, and when I was 20 I used to leave screenings and walk home alone holding imaginary conversations with her in my head. I had a plan to go down to New York and meet her but she died in 2001 before I could put it in motion.

Nathan Heller has written an excellent piece about her and why she still matters in the New Yorker an you should read it. Go out and by some of her books too while you are at it.

David Hockney: still one of the youngest, most innovative painter out there? Yes indeed.

An article about Hockney's new video still composites. Too few artists actually question the nature of seeing anymore.

Pauline Kael Revisited

As far as I am concerned there can never be enough posthumous love letters to my favorite film critic, Pauline Kael.

Interview Project

I find David Lynch's new interview project genuinely moving. It is meant to be seen on the web and you can see the whole thing here:
